Professional Experiences & Education
In December of 2013, I relocated to Portland, Ore. after taking several months off to travel across Europe, a longtime dream come to fruition. I’m currently a contracted Communications Manager at Nike, where I support Global Product Transition Management with presentation design, strategic communications, digital content management, newsletter production and leadership messaging.
Previously, I was the Lead Writer and Content Manager for Flowerpot Media, a content marketing and web design startup based out of Vancouver, WA. My role entailed writing articles, business blog entries, website content, marketing collateral, email campaigns and social media posts, as well as overseeing content strategy and brand representation for each of our respective clients. Additionally, I led the content team, oversaw deadlines and edited all content.
In 2011, I launched an online nature and culture magazine, The Queen Bee Collective. As Editor In Chief, I coordinated more than a dozen contributors, two interns, several freelance editors and two web designers. We published three unique issues online over the course of a year, and hosted a fundraising party to support production costs. The Queen Bee Collective offered reflections on nature, society and the spaces in-between, where our lives and environments intersect. It was a very rewarding project, and I learned a ton in the process!
Simultaneously, from 2011-2013, I worked for Symantec Corporation as a Communication Specialist, developing communication plans, ghost-writing speeches for company executives, managing the internal Sales newsletter, and serving as an editor for a team of Sales Managers.
From 2007-2010, I was a Staff Writer and Associate Editor of Ethos Magazine, an independent multicultural publication solely run by University of Oregon journalism students. I’m proud to say I was on the staff when the magazine won its first national award. My feature articles and essays have been published in Ethos Magazine, Flux Magazine, F Magazine, The Queen Bee Collective, and Mac’s List. I received a Critical Mention award for Non-fiction Article in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association College Gold Circle Awards in 2009.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication in 2010. My minor was in Women’s and Gender Studies.
IN MY FREE TIME
I maintain a blog, The Wisdom Shop, about the moments, big and small, that color our lives with meaning. I also tutor university students and community members in academic and creative writing. My clients often become lifelong contacts, and I deeply value the tutor-student relationship.
Dancing, traveling, spending quality time with friends and family, and exploring the great outdoors of the Pacific Northwest are some of my favorite activities. I’m a native Oregonian and feel most at home either camping beneath old growth Doug Firs or reading a good novel creekside.
